Great characters, shocking backstories! For this list, we’ll be going over the characters from film whose personal histories include tragic, unsettling, and bizarre subject matter, whether in the film itself or in source material. We’ll be excluding animated characters, such as Quasimodo from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” as those may warrant a list of their own. Also, obviously… potential spoilers ahead. Our countdown includes characters from films such as “Zombieland” (2009), Rorschach from “Watchmen” (2009) and Gollum from “The Lord of the Rings” (2001-03) and “The Hobbit” (2012-14) franchises.
